Soft strip demolition is the process of carefully removing all non-structural internal elements from a building while leaving the main structural framework intact, typically for a renovation, refurbishment, or complete demolition.
The goal is to remove everything except the building's main frame and shell.
Common items removed include partition walls, fixtures, fittings, doors, windows, flooring, ceilings, and mechanical and electrical systems. This process is also known as a strip-out and is distinct from hard demolition, which involves taking down the entire structure.
Internal walls and partitions
Fixtures and fittings: such as doors, windows, bathroom and kitchen fittings.
Flooring, ceiling tiles, and suspended ceilings.
Mechanical and electrical (M&E) systems: including wiring, plumbing, and HVAC equipment.
Temporary structures and equipment.
Renovation and refurbishment: It prepares a building for new designs by creating a blank shell while preserving the existing structure.
Repurposing a building: It clears a space to be adapted for a new use.
Preparation for hard demolition: It removes internal components before the main structure is brought down, which can sometimes reduce overall reconstruction time.
